WWE SmackDown recap & reactions (July 14, 2026): Spicing Things Up

WWE is back with the go home SmackDown prior to Saturday Night’s Main Event but it almost feels silly to say that because this upcoming SNME felt pretty unimportant going into this show. Stipulation Creative certainly did try to spice up SNME by adding a stipulation to the big Cody Rhodes/CM Punk vs. Sami Zayn/Gunther tag match set for tomorrow. That stip being if Sami & Gunther win, they get added to the WWE title match at SummeSlam. Certainly not insignificant. Acting GM Adam Pearce interrupted a ranting Gunther to inform him of this. First he let the Career Killer know that the reason he’s not fired after his unprovoked attack on GM Nick Aldis last week is because Aldis himself pleaded with management to keep tomorrow’s match intact.
