Nick Aldis Interferes in Gunther and Sami Zayn’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Match

Nick Aldis has had enough of Gunther, and let it be known in a big way tonight. During WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, Sami Zayn and Gunther teamed up to face off against Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. A win would’ve put Zayn and Gunther into a Fatal 4-Way match against Rhodes and Punk at […] The post Nick Aldis Interferes in Gunther and Sami Zayn’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Match appeared first on Wrestlezone.

Nick Aldis screws GUNTHER, Punk & Rhodes win at SNME

The idea of getting all the top stars together for a mismatched tag team showcase main event is the kind of trope WWE can and should exploit for a streaming event like Saturday Night’s Main Event. That’s why I understood when they booked WWE Champion CM Punk to team up with Cody Rhodes to take on GUNTHER and Sami Zayn in the headlining attraction for tonight’s (Sat., July 18, 2026) show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. What I really liked, though, was that they added some legitimately compelling stakes that would open the door to all kinds of fun possibilities while giving the two teams a reason to actually work together — if GUNTHER & Zayn could win, they would be added to the Punk vs. Rhodes WWE championship match at SummerSlam, making it a Fatal 4-Way. Everyone, then, had incentive to work together to try their hardest to win the tag team affair. They set the tone early: Picking up where they left off…👊 We got ourselves a BRAWL to start!! pic.twitter.com/fdEVEk70lJ — WW

Rumor Roundup (July 18, 2026): GUNTHER’s SummerSlam plan, Bron Breakker’s bad booking, Hangman Page, more!

Is WWE really planning for Nick Aldis to get back in the ring for a match at SummerSlam? Let’s see what today’s rumors have to say about it! Top rumor of the day: Plans for GUNTHER vs. Nick Aldis at WWE SummerSlam WWE added a stipulation to Saturday Night’s Main Event tonight that creates a path for GUNTHER and Sami Zayn to be added to CM Punk and Cody Rhodes’ WWE championship match at SummerSlam, which would make it a Fatal 4-way. However, PW Insider’s latest report on SummerSlam makes it seem like that scenario won’t be the one that plays out. According to Insider, GUNTHER vs. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis is now “100% set” for SummerSlam on the weekend of August 1 & 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It’s scheduled to be Nick’s return to the ring after joining WWE back in 2023 in his current authority figure role. Where does that leave Sami Zayn at SummerSlam, if Punk and Rhodes do go on to win at Saturday Night’s Main Event? I’ll let you speculate about that one in the com

WWE SmackDown recap & reactions (July 14, 2026): Spicing Things Up

WWE is back with the go home SmackDown prior to Saturday Night’s Main Event but it almost feels silly to say that because this upcoming SNME felt pretty unimportant going into this show. Let’s see if they could change our mind on that. Find all the results from that show at Claire’s wonderful live blog here. Stipulation Creative certainly did try to spice up SNME by adding a stipulation to the big Cody Rhodes/CM Punk vs. Sami Zayn/Gunther tag match set for tomorrow. That stip being if Sami & Gunther win, they get added to the WWE title match at SummeSlam. Certainly not insignificant. Acting GM Adam Pearce interrupted a ranting Gunther to inform him of this. First he let the Career Killer know that the reason he’s not fired after his unprovoked attack on GM Nick Aldis last week is because Aldis himself pleaded with management to keep tomorrow’s match intact. That includes that above mentioned stipulation that Aldis had planned all along. Now part of that feels like bull because it see

GUNTHER is rewarded with a potential SummerSlam main event after attacking Nick Aldis

One week after GUNTHER destroyed SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, the Ring General kicked off tonight’s (July 17) episode to address his actions. As you might expect, GUNTHER blamed Aldis for everything that happened, all because the GM prevented him from winning the WWE championship over the last few months. Acting GM Adam Pearce interrupted at that point to read him the riot act and say GUNTHER would be fired if he pulled that same stunt on Raw. He should actually thank Aldis, because he’s the one who insisted that GUNTHER’s tag team match (with Sami Zayn) against WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes goes on as planned this weekend (July 18) at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Madison Square Garden. More importantly, GUNTHER should have waited to fully hear what Nick had to say before he attacked. He would have learned that the SNME tag match actually has high stakes; if GUNTHER and Zayn win, they will be added to the SummerSlam main event match of Punk vs. Rhodes on the weekend of August 1 &

A warning to SmackDown: Watch out for Adam Pearce

Raw General Manager Adam Pearce will once again steer the ship tonight on SmackDown in place of Nick Aldis. Last week, Gunther attacked SmackDown’s GM at the end of the show, setting up Pearce as tonight’s substitute and leaving him with “a ton to address.” As Your Noble Scribe, it’s my duty to remind you what happened the last time Pearce ran the blue brand. He booked a title match between then-Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes. However, he booked it for Raw, not SmackDown. At the time, it struck many as an odd decision. But in reality, it all made perfect sense. With SummerSlam looming, WWE quickly needed to set up an Undisputed Championship match for the event. It accomplished that by writing Rhodes off with an injury, paving the way for hometown hero CM Punk to step in at Chicago’s Raw and defeat Zayn for the title. Now, Punk will face Rhodes in a huge title fight at SummerSlam. Again, reality. Me? I deal in kayfabe. I judge the characters by their motivations and d

WWE SmackDown preview (July 17, 2026): WWE somehow forgot to book a card for SmackDown

SmackDown airs tonight with a live show emanating from MVP Arena in Albany, New York. This is the third episode of SmackDown during the five week build to SummerSlam, which takes place on the weekend of August 1. WWE somehow forgot to book a card for SmackDown Saturday Night’s Main Event is scheduled for tomorrow night (July 18) and SummerSlam is around the corner after that, but tonight’s episode of SmackDown got the cold shoulder from WWE creative. As of this writing, zero matches have been announced for the show. There’s a somewhat decent kayfabe excuse for this happening, as GM Nick Aldis was just reinstated last week, only to be taken out by GUNTHER two hours later. Aldis didn’t book any matches for tonight’s show during the two hours when he was conscious last Friday night, and he’s presumably been incapacitated ever since. That means Raw GM Adam Pearce is once again the man in charge of the blue brand tonight, where he says there is “a ton to address.” Who knows, maybe it will t

WWE Confirms Nick Aldis’ Replacement for SmackDown After Gunther Attack

Last week on WWE SmackDown, Gunther once again lost control and attacked Nick Aldis at the end of the show. Although Cody Rhodes made the save at last, Aldis had already passed out after multiple Sleeper holds from the Ring General. It looks like the attack was severe enough for Aldis to not show up […] The post WWE Confirms Nick Aldis’ Replacement for SmackDown After Gunther Attack appeared first on Wrestlezone.
