Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp heard from people in AEW who said the idea of Kairi signing there in time for last month’s All In event was “really never plausible,” even though she’s had talks with the promotion. There is apparently “nothing imminent” when it comes to Sane possibly signing with AEW. The direction where this “was supposed to go” is Kairi signing a dual contract with AEW and Stardom, and there is still “hope” that will happen. AEW is said to be “on board” with the idea, with the hold up probably being Stardom’s financial situation. Rebel gets a new nickname while helping heel Britt Baker win her AEW return match
Prior to tonight’s (Sept. 9) special Rebel Heart episode of Dynamite, Dr. Britt Baker DMD had not wrestled a match since November 2024. That changed when she returned to the ring tonight for a trios match with Hikaru Shida and TBS Champion Persephone against Thunder Rosa, Hyan, and Maya World. Rebel (not Reba) returned to AEW earlier in the show, where she reprised her role as Baker’s comedy sidekick. Even though Rebel was diagnosed with terminal ALS earlier this year, she remained true to her heel form by rolling down to the ring during Baker’s match to assist her on the Lockjaw finish. She even had the phrase “Roll Model” written in big letters on the back of her chair, playing off Baker’s “Role Model” nickname. AEW Dynamite airs tonight (Sept. 9) with a live show emanating from Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia. This is the second episode of Dynamite during the four week build to All Out, which takes place on Sept. 26 in Chicago. Get ready for one of the most emotional shows in AEW history Tonight’s “Rebel Heart” episode of Dynamite is about supporting Rebel aka Tanea Brooks and joining the fight against ALS, which she was terminally diagnosed with earlier this year. When this special episode of Dynamite was announced a while back, many AEW fans wondered if Tony Khan would finally bring Britt Baker back to be part of it, given her real life friendship with Rebel. Not even gonna do the “we haven’t seen Britt Baker since…” bit. If you’re looking for the latest on what we know about the DMD and AEW, head here. This is about Tanea “Rebel” Brooks, the former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader many of us first saw during the 2010s while she was with TNA, and who later charmed a lot of us as Baker’s put-upon assistant in the early days of Tony Khan’s start-up. She’s been missing from AEW screens for even longer than Britt. In Rebel’s case, we knew it was health problems. Sadly, a couple months back, Rebel found out the underlying cause of many of her issues: terminal ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). When I was younger, we always called it Lou Gehrig’s disease.
