This New Japan title is now back in the hands of an AEW-affiliated wrestler
Even though it was a late addition to the card, I thought PAC had a real chance to beat Shota Umino for the IWGP Global title at Forbidden Door two Sundays ago. Umino had just taken the belt off of Andrade El Ídolo, which seemed to indicate both that New Japan was okay hot potato-ing that belt, and with talent who aren’t fully under their control holding it. Nic Nemeth was the second-ever IWGP Global Heavyweight champ in 2024, after all.
But Umino retained in San Jose, California, so I figured he was probably safe on a Road to G1 Climax show — even one at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall like the one today (July 6).
Wrong again, blog boy.
