Here’s how WWE will find a top contender to Grayson Waller’s NXT championship
It sure feels like the only way to earn a championship match in WWE anymore is by winning some sort of tournament or a multi-person match, and sometimes a series of them. In the case of the NXT championship, currently held by Grayson Waller, that’s exactly what we’re getting.
Waller won the title at Heatwave in a Fatal 4-Way, defeating Tony D’Angelo, Cruz Montana, and Zilla Fatu, and now he needs a challenger. Instead of giving D’Angelo a rematch for free, they put together a six-man tag team match on this week’s episode of NXT television, one made after half the men’s roster established their desire to be next in line.
NXT General Manager Robert Stone made it simple: D’Angelo & Saquon Shugars & Mason Rook would take on Montana & EK Prosper & Keanu Carver. The winning team would advance to next week’s episode to a triple threat match that would decide who is the next number one contender to Waller’s title.
