Cope was ambushed backstage at AEW Dynamite
He didn’t show up on our screens during Dynamite last night (Sept. 9), but it seems Adam Copeland was on hand in Athens, Georgia’s Akins Ford Arena. Like a lot of his colleagues in the business, the WWE Hall of Famer and reigning AEW Tag champ was probably on-hand to support Rebel and her ALS-fighting efforting. But the Canadian formerly known as Edge was also there to help set-up his debut for the relaunched Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling in his home country, which takes place at the historic Maple Leaf Gardens on Oct. 3. The build for that started last week, when Cope called out former TNA World champion Steve Maclin for talking trash about The North. Christian Cage’s friend and tag partner laid out his Canuck bonafides (“I piss Molsons and maple syrup”, says Cope) for the U.S. Marine veteran, then asked if Maclin had “a set” to face him at MLP Northern Rising next month. AEW Dynamite recap, reactions (Sep. 9, 2026): Rebel saves the day
AEW did an excellent job weaving real life serious issues with an exciting wrestling program to advance toward the All Out PPV. Dynamite (Sep. 9, 2026) was the special Rebel Heart episode in honor of Tanea Brooks (aka Rebel, not Reba) to bring awareness to ALS. Brooks is suffering from terminal ALS. Plus, there was the sad news over the weekend that Butcher died. Instead of a dour mood, AEW did what they do best to provide a positive evening of entertainment. The show featured Dr. Britt Baker DMD returning to the ring with a helping hand from Rebel, the in-ring debut of Sting’s son (Steven Borden), tension simmering between Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay, and more from Akins Ford Arena in Athens, GA. Rebel gets a new nickname while helping heel Britt Baker win her AEW return match
Prior to tonight’s (Sept. 9) special Rebel Heart episode of Dynamite, Dr. Britt Baker DMD had not wrestled a match since November 2024. That changed when she returned to the ring tonight for a trios match with Hikaru Shida and TBS Champion Persephone against Thunder Rosa, Hyan, and Maya World. Rebel (not Reba) returned to AEW earlier in the show, where she reprised her role as Baker’s comedy sidekick. Even though Rebel was diagnosed with terminal ALS earlier this year, she remained true to her heel form by rolling down to the ring during Baker’s match to assist her on the Lockjaw finish. She even had the phrase “Roll Model” written in big letters on the back of her chair, playing off Baker’s “Role Model” nickname.
