WWE NXT Recap & Reactions (July 7, 2026): Tangled Webs

If you’ve watched NXT at all in recent months or follow along with it here on Cageside or elsewhere, you’re probably well aware by now that the women’s division is the best part of the show every week. It’s deep and talented, and for a variety of reasons, the female competitors are just way more interesting than their male counterparts. At the top of the list of interesting stars is new NXT Women’s Champion Kendal Grey, who has earned widespread praise for her noticeable potential. Kendal was set for her first title defense tonight after Nattie played her ‘Hart’ card last week and cashed in on almost two decades of success to skip the line and get a shot at gold. Heading into the match that rightfully main-evented the show, Kendal still had unfinished business with the woman she beat for the title, Lola Vice, a woman who has been clamoring for a shot in recent weeks, Kelani Jordan, and the woman who attacked her during last week’s main event, Kali Armstrong. The future is always now in NXT

This week’s episode of NXT television was all about making it clear the newcomers are here, and setting them up for future opportunities. First, Dorian Van Dux & Sean Legacy became top contenders to The Vanity Project’s tag team titles by defeating Birth Right, DarkState, and OTM in a Fatal 4-Way, though there was some outside interference. Either way, the newer squad came out of the pack. Later, the same happened in a number one contender’s match for the women’s North American championship. Layla Diggs managed to get the job done against a field of Lizzy Rain, Izzi Dame, and Thea Hail for the right to challenge Zaria. Both title matches take place next week. Meanwhile, we’ll also be getting a top contender’s match for the women’s championship held by Kendal Grey, and that will feature Lola Vice, Kelani Jordan, and Kali Armstrong. We’ll see if they hold true to the theme in that match next week. Oh, and they also introduced Nikki Blackheart Reina Volcan proper: Reina Volcan is ready

NXT Pipeline Quarterly Report: We’ve Entered the Grey Area

ORLANDO, FLORIDA - JUNE 9: Kelani Jordan in action against Kendal Grey during NXT at the WWE Performance Center on June 9, 2026 in Orlando, Florida. (Photo by Matt Pendleton/WWE via Getty Images) | WWE via Getty Images Back in April, right after Stand & Deliver, I wrote up a scouting report discussing some main roster projections and comparisons for NXT prospects who were likely on the move to the main roster. Out of the 9 potential callups that I wrote about, 6 of them have since debuted on Raw and Smackdown, with Josh Briggs and former NXT Tag Team Champions Hank & Tank the only three that haven’t moved up. Once the dust settled after WrestleMania, I took a look at everybody that was left on the NXT roster and highlighted 9 prospects who could be primed for a promotion of their own within the next year. Now, I present to you a quarterly update on the status of the NXT pipeline. Every three months or so, I’ll take a look at which NXT stars have made the greatest strides and seen th
