WWE Stock Report: WWE’s latest try with Austin Theory isn’t working

Some places do power rankings. Here at Cageside, we do a stock report. In this weekly series, we identify three Superstars (or groups of Superstars) who are on their way up, and three that are moving in the opposite direction. After a busy week that included the fallout from Night of Champions, a lot of fortunes were changed. With that in mind, let’s see whose stock decreased the most this week: Stock Down #3: Jey Uso Over the last month, WWE revisited the idea that Jey Uso is a viable world champion with his push to the King of the Ring final. But his two major losses over the last week to Oba Femi at Night of Champions and Cody Rhodes on SmackDown have established that Jey just isn’t at the level of challenging for the WWE championship or World Heavyweight Championship. I guess he’ll have to settle for the consolation prize of getting to kick LA Knight’s ass. Stock Down #2: Rusev Do you know why Rusev wasn’t featured on this week’s episode of Raw? It’s probably because he was busy lo

WWE SmackDown recap, reactions (July 3, 2026): Riding and dying

ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY - JULY 3: Sami Zayn, Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes speak during SmackDown at Boardwalk Hall Arena on July 3, 2026 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. (Photo by Craig Melvin/WWE via Getty Images) | WWE via Getty Images Ah, a two-hour wrestling show. Really the ideal length for one, at least one of the episodic weekly variety. Sure, there’s going to be less screen time for people on a roster already using talented people as extras. But that was the case when SmackDown was a three-hour show too. The extra time ends up feeling like padding; it doesn’t appear WWE has a real plan for how to utilize the additional 60 minutes to maximize opportunities for more people to connect with the audience. That was my big takeaway from the SmackDown that was taped Monday night after Raw and premiered Fri., July 3 at its usual time on USA Network or Netflix. Other than that, to steal the catchphrase the new WWE champion stole from and used on the former one in Atlantic City, New Jersey, “

WWE Fans Rally Behind Sami Zayn After Cody Rhodes Earns Title Shot

Sami Zayn’s celebration as the new WWE Undisputed Champion on the July 3 episode of WWE SmackDown didn’t last long, and fans immediately shared their opinions online. After Cody Rhodes earned the title shot once again by defeating Jey Uso to become the new No. 1 contender, many fans felt like it was being unfair […] The post WWE Fans Rally Behind Sami Zayn After Cody Rhodes Earns Title Shot appeared first on Wrestlezone.

Uh oh, Golden Boy Cody Rhodes is getting a rematch against WWE Champion Sami Zayn ASAP

The main event of tonight’s (July 3) episode of SmackDown featured Cody Rhodes vs. Jey Uso in a number one contender match for Sami Zayn’s WWE championship. The winner fights Zayn for the gold in just three nights on the July 6 episode of Raw in Chicago. The two babyfaces went back and forth with no shenanigans or dirty tactics. Rhodes proved to be the better wrestler after blasting Uso with one too many Cross Rhodes for him to withstand. The American Nightmare is No. 1 Contender! 🇺🇸@codyrhodes will battle @samizayn for the Undisputed WWE Title on Monday Night Raw! pic.twitter.com/md5gtiIMwi — WWE (@WWE) July 4, 2026 As a result of the win, Cody now gets his rematch for the WWE championship against Zayn on next Monday’s Raw, the same night that CM Punk is rumored to return to WWE in Chicago. Sami’s improbable title reign will only be nine days long at that point, and Rhodes will presumably be favored to win back the belt. Maybe this explains why WWE didn’t update its SummerSlam

Every WWE fan who doubted Sami Zayn can kiss his ass

Tonight’s (July 3) two-hour episode of SmackDown kicked off with new WWE Champion Sami Zayn giving his victory speech after winning the belt at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. Sami appreciated all of his ride-or-die fans who always knew he could win the big one. However, he spent quite a bit of time addressing all the other WWE fans who either doubted him or turned their backs on him. Zayn could be petty and tell them all to kiss his ass, but he won’t do that because he’s a good guy who won the title his way, which is also the right way. It’s now undeniable that grand slam champion Sami Zayn is an all-time great WWE star (and you can totally kiss his ass even though he’s too nice to say it). Sami Zayn wants us all to know, he is a GOOD GUY! 👀 pic.twitter.com/vTro5ZQxj4 — WWE (@WWE) July 4, 2026 Former WWE Champion Cody Rhodes interrupted at that point, soon to be followed by Jey Uso. They both wanted the first shot at Zayn’s belt. Acting General Manager Adam Pearce soon made

It sure seems like WWE is up to something with Raw in Chicago

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - APRIL 20: CM Punk addresses Cody Rhodes during Monday Night RAW at T-Mobile Arena on April 20, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Rich Wade/WWE Via Getty Images) | WWE via Getty Images I don’t have any inside information here. I don’t actually know what WWE has planned for next week when Monday Night Raw heads for Chicago. It just feels like they’re up to something. When Sami Zayn won the WWE championship at Night of Champions this past weekend, he did so by pinning Cody Rhodes. GUNTHER was not involved in the decision, and has since moved on to an apparent program with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. Rumors say they’re headed for a match at SummerSlam. You would think the obvious next step here would be a rematch pitting Zayn vs. Rhodes at that same show. But that’s not what is happening. CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD! Due to the holiday, this week’s episode of SmackDown was taped (spoilers here) on Monday after Raw. The show featured Rhodes defeating Jey Uso i
