Back in 2024, WWE unveiled a new title, the Speed championship, to go along with a new format the promotion was playing around with at the time through a partnership with Elon Musk’s X. It started as a weekly series that aired exclusively on that platform, where wrestlers would get to sprint through short matches with a three minute time limit. The partnership with X ended in 2025, so WWE simply moved the men’s and women’s titles over to the developmental brand, NXT, and the concept continued there. It never really took off, and always felt out of place. Finally, they booked a unification match pitting Speed Champion Wren Sinclair against North American Champion Zaria at Heatwave this past weekend.
