Brock Lesnar is the past, but it’s unclear if he’s retired after SummerSlam

It always seemed likely Brock Lesnar was going to lose to Oba Femi in their Hell in a Cell match at tonight’s (Sat., Aug. 1, 2026) SummerSlam premium live event at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was no surprise, then, when that’s exactly what happened. The fact that it was given the main event spot made me wonder if it wouldn’t end with an emotional send off for Lesnar. It did not. Instead, we got a message that was clear in its intent but does leave us with more questions regarding his future: THE PAST 🤝 THE PRESENT 🤝 THE FUTURE@BrockLesnar | @Obaofwwe pic.twitter.com/YLmd6tDWg5 — WWE (@WWE) August 2, 2026 Lesnar grabbed a microphone, told Oba to join him, congratulated him on his win and then said “this is the future, ladies and gentlemen.” Then he pointed to himself while saying “this is the past” before reiterating that Femi is “the future.” The point of the match was to crown him the next big thing — they even called him as much during the broadcast — an
