Rumor Roundup (July 23, 2026): MJF World title plan, AEW release denied, WWE names, more!

Rumors, we get rumors, we get lots and lots of rumors… Is MJF’s plan better than yours? A report from Fightful Select last night corroborated a Wrestling Observer one from a couple weeks ago that claimed Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s AEW World title defense against Kenny Omega was originally set for Sun. July 26’s Redemption PPV until then-champ MJF pushed for it to be moved up. Fightful’s heard MJF was the “driving creative force” behind Omega defending against the TNT champ at Redemption. While Friedman apparently didn’t specify that Kevin Knight should be the TNT champ when they get to Montreal this weekend, it was said he was in favor of Knight joining The Don Callis Family. Max denies that, but it fits. In addition to Knight having won the TNT title before he turned heel, if hadn’t been in the Family, he wouldn’t have Sunday’s title shot in-story (he earned it by agreeing to be on MJF’s losing Forbidden Door cage match team).
